I have been a bit worried about the deep deep dive in Antarctica Sea Ice Extent.
It appears to be a processing or sensor error. As of today the NSIDC data confirms it.
The table of data on the right of this image is the last 5 days. The data does have a value in the Missing column – 1.97873 million sq km.
The Missing column is usually empty. Sometimes it takes NSIDC a couple of days to sort things out.


Yes. When I see data seesawing like this, I get suspicious.
I think that the processing error goes back a couple of more days. What do you think?
Not sure. It isn’t unusual to have a large drop. The lack of recovery from the drop was unusual.
Of course Cryosphere today still has not corrected. They may not this, time we shall see.
