Arctic Sea Ice Extent Sep 18 2014 – -1,179,000 sq km below the 1981-2010 mean. Data for Day 260. Data here.
A Rise of 27,000 sq km, Day 259 with 4.98339 million sq km is now the potential minimum (but I make no predictions since it has been a surprising year).
Day 261: MASIE shows a small loss of 15,000 Km2 for a new 2014 minimum of 5.11 M Km2, or 32.9% of March max.
Melting was limited to Beaufort, Chukchi, and East Siberian Seas. The end is near, almost a week later than the average minimum date of day 255.
MASIE extent is still slightly higher than NOAA at 5.06 M Km2 on day 261 (up from 2014 minimum of 4.97 on day 259).
