Sea ice also goes “up and down.” What are their long-term trends?
Depends are your starting point. If we go back to the last ice age, its down (thankfully)!

Up in Antarctica recently. But the satellite data is sparse for the 20s, 30s and 40s.
So interesting – growing up as a kid in the 1970’s all I can recall are how snowy and cold the winters were, especially for Wisconsin where we were used to them. And, it wasn’t until the mid-1990’s when we first began having an occasional “brown” opener to the annual gun deer season the weekend before Thanksgiving. It looks like during the late 70’s and 80’s that we were more lucky than anything on our snow cover extent.
