1979 and 1982 were the two highest Global sea ice extent for day 113.
The reason for that is the unusually high Antarctic Sea Ice. After 1982, Antarctic went down quickly and then slowly climbed until the records in 2008 and later.

Huge Solar EUV decrease in 1970 with the minimum in 1977-1978. Tends to match the increase in Antarctica record extents in 1979 and 1982! This Solar EUV [24] is lower than the 1970s. It will be interesting to see what happens in the next years.
