Yes, MASIE shows Arctic ice melting ahead of last year; in fact, six days ahead. The difference is mainly in Barents, Okhotsk, Baffin Bay, all seas that go close to zero ice by September. Beaufort Gyre moved ice to open more water than usual there, about 100k km2 more than last year at this time.
