New Zealand is getting sunnier.
During the past four decades, New Zealand’s annual hours of bright sunshine have crept higher, further fuelling the annual competition – often between Blenheim, Nelson, Richmond and Whakatane – to be named the country’s sunniest location.
Using data from NZ.
Sunnier, yes. But it’s more like a reflection of some oceanic-atmospheric coupling based on virtually all of the sites showing a marked reversal around 1990. If it peaks and reverts to a lower annual mean over the next couple decades, that would be proof of the sine wave pattern of natural climatic cycles.
I wish the data went back further for NZ. But most sunshine data I’ve found has an up and down cycle.
