There were no NSIDC sea ice updates today. I emailed NSIDC to ask why and got this prompt and polite reply.
“Thank you for contacting the National Snow and Ice Data Center.Because our data provider, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), has shut down the data stream as part of the government shutdown, we are temporarily unable to update the product.

Will they be able to show what happened day to day when they get back to work? I’m figuring the satellitesare not on strike…
NOAA must not be the only source for ice data. This site shows graphs of ice data updated today.

Their page now says: “No SSMIS data until further notice because of US Federal Government shutdown”
I know, but scroll down. There are graphs plotted with AMSR2 data.
But if you look very carefully, there is no October data even though the graph date says Oct 3.
