The 1st daily record for Antarctic Sea Ice Extent in 2014 was set yesterday on day 15. The old record was from 2008.
The old record was broken by 26,500 sq km.

Unless the “winds” pick up down there, and move the ice around, the “slope” right now looks like it is on a smaller decline, thus, more ice to start their winter down there….long ways to go, but will be interesting to see how it plays out. If Big Al goes down there soon, we will see an up-tick!!!
I’m not sure what to expect this year. Antarctica tends to go 1-2 years up and then down and then 1-2 years up. You can see 2011 was an ultra low year around minimum. 2012 and 2013 set new all time records. So I wasn’t necessarily expecting 2014 to be a record setter, yet here it is keeping up with the amazing 2008.
