Antarctica , Sea Ice, Ice Sheets and Wind Excuses

Over at the LA Times they are making excuses for why there is record breaking sea ice in Antarctica.

One of the excuses is that “global warming is strengthening circumpolar winds”.  There is very little evidence that “global warming” would actually increase wind. Any change in winds is tenuous and could be cyclic.

However, the trouble with that excuse is that an increase (or change caused by cycles like the AMO/PDO etc)  in circumpolar wind in Antarctica would prevent snow accumulation and cause ablation of the ice surface which would then appear as “melting” and it would be nothing of the sort.

  1. Actually, as the UV from the Sun declines [Check the 10.7cm Flux since 1960], the circumpolar winds/current move more to the north. Remember, space has a temperature of -455 F. Heat must be supplied to keep the Planet warm, and a lot of heat leaves via the Poles.

The result of the northward circumpolar movement is more ice, i.e., more Antarctic cold. We are entering the end of Solar Cycle 24. At 14 years for the next Solar Cycle 25, we could become very, very cold.

But, if we raise the CO2 levels, we will get warm; therefore, the “Pause”.

Of course, I think that AGW was always a hoax, but Solar driven warming has occurred since 1650. Now we can test if less UV from the Sun [is this “natural variability”?!?!], truly does have an affect on the Earth’s temperature.
