Day 264: MASIE shows a very small loss of 8862, Km2 to 5.11 M, more like a pause in recovering from the 5.07 M minimum.
Most regions are holding or growing extent, especially Canadian Archipelago, now more than 50,000 above 2014 minimum.
The day’s decline was most due to a loss in Central Arctic. It would be very late for the annual minimum to occur further into September.

The 7-day running average for MASIE is now at 5.13 M, while NOAA running average is quite close at 5.06 M.
Day 265: MASIE shows a sizeable rebound gain of 42.627 Km2 to 5.15 M, compared to the 5.06 M minimum.
Most regions are growing extent, especially Canadian Archipelago, Beaufort and Chukchi, more than offsetting a slight loss in Central Arctic.
It is likely that ice extent will rise from here on.
The Sept. average at this point is 5.35 M for MASIE, and 5.16 M for NOAA. Both figure should rise slightly.
