I have a question for you if you don’t mind? In this mean arctic temperature plot, why are there such extreme swings in temperature during the winter months, and then it tracks the mean dead nuts during the summer months?
Thanks, Gary Meyers
I have a question for you if you don’t mind. In this mean arctic temperature plot, why are the temperature swings all over the place in the winter months, and then the temperature tracks the mean dead nuts in the summer months?
Probably because the conditions during summer are more stable than in the non-summer periods. The direct cause could be that during summer the pressure and temperature conditions are more similar to surrounding non Arctic regions, while in the colder months the difference would be greater and favor fast changes in local (Arctic) weather.
I’m curious, a bit surprised, about the decrease in the ice extent in both poles in the last 1-2 weeks.
What’s happening? Some kind of “side effect” of the moderate El Nino?
