Antarctic Sea Ice Extent Aug 13 2014 – 1,187,000 sq km Above ‘Normal ‘

Antarctic Sea Ice Extent is 1,187,000 sq km above the 1981-2010 mean.

In 2010 (green line) , despite smashing previous records, the sea ice tailed away to normal levels. And in 2013 (black line), sea ice went on to break 2012’s record and then broke it again and again until it peaked on Sep 30.

So I make no predictions.

Antarctic Sea Ice Extent Aug 9 2014 – 1,274,000 sq km Above Normal – Amazing Climb!

Antarctic Sea Ice Extent is 1,274,000 sq km above the 1981-2010 mean. That is the 142nd daily record for 2014.

Amazing climb has resumed. 180,000 sq km in last two days.  300,000 sq km above previous record for the same day in 2010.

Antarctic Sea Ice Extent Aug 6 2014 – 1,357,000 sq km Above Normal – 139th Daily Record

Antarctic Sea Ice Extent is 1,357,000 sq km above the 1981-2010 mean. That is the 139th daily record for 2014.

A pause after a huge jump. Those pauses are not unusual as you can see from the 2013 record breaking run (the black line).

Antarctic Sea Ice Extent Aug 5 2014 – Amazing Rise! 49 Days Ahead of ‘Normal’

Antarctic Sea Ice Extent is 1,418,000 sq km above the 1981-2010 mean.

Antarctic Sea Ice Extent is so high it is higher than the maximum mean which usual occurs around day 265.  Which means it is now 49 days ahead of normal!

Of course the extent for day 216 is still  1,000,000 sq km below the record set in 2013 … but that occurred on day 273.

And in just 1 day the extent rose 240,000 sq km. And it rose 700,000 sq km in last 7 days.
