• Global Sea Ice Extent is -447,000 sq km below the 1981-2010 mean. That is ranked 24 for the day.
• Antarctic Sea Ice Extent is 979,000 sq km above the 1981-2010 mean. That is ranked 2 for the day.
• Arctic Sea Ice Extent is -1,427,000 sq km below the 1981-2010 mean. That is ranked 32 for the day.

• Global Sea Ice Extent is -230,000 sq km below the 1981-2010 mean. That is ranked 21 for the day.
• Antarctic Sea Ice Extent is 1,137,000 sq km above the 1981-2010 mean. That is ranked 1 for the day.
• Arctic Sea Ice Extent is -1,367,000 sq km below the 1981-2010 mean. That is ranked 32 for the day.

• Global Sea Ice Extent is 33,000 sq km above the 1981-2010 mean. That is ranked 16 for the day.
• Antarctic Sea Ice Extent is 1,369,000 sq km above the 1981-2010 mean. That is ranked 1 for the day.
• Arctic Sea Ice Extent is -1,336,000 sq km below the 1981-2010 mean. That is ranked 32 for the day.

This is a chart of the number of daily records and 2nd,3rd etc.  2014 now has more daily records (First) than any other year.

2014 is in 3rd place for top 5 … but it is only July 8. 180 days to go in the year.

There are no daily records from before 2007!

• Global Sea Ice Extent is 187,000 sq km above the 1981-2010 mean. That is ranked 15 for the day. Still above normal!
• Antarctic Sea Ice Extent is 1,521,000 sq km above the 1981-2010 mean. That is ranked 1 for the day. That smashes the old daily record by 400,000 sq km
• Arctic Sea Ice Extent is -1,335,000 sq km below the 1981-2010 mean. That is ranked 32 for the day.

• Global Sea Ice Extent is 176,000 sq km above the 1981-2010 mean. That is ranked 15 for the day. And still higher than the 1981-201 mean.
• Antarctic Sea Ice Extent is 1,530,000 sq km above the 1981-2010 mean. That is ranked 1 for the day. This is 2.3 million sq km higher than the 2002 extent for the same day.
• Arctic Sea Ice Extent is -1,355,000 sq km below the 1981-2010 mean. That is ranked 32 for the day.

A quick update for sea ice extent for day 183 of 2014

• Global Sea Ice Extent is 174,000 sq km above the 1981-2010 mean. That is ranked 15 for the day.
• Antarctic Sea Ice Extent is 1,527,000 sq km above the 1981-2010 mean. That is ranked 1 for the day. There have been 116 daily records set in 2014.
• Arctic Sea Ice Extent is -1,354,000 sq km below the 1981-2010 mean. That is ranked 33 for the day.

Many AGW true believers dismiss “Global Sea Ice” as an unimportant metric. I’m guessing that in a couple of days it will become important to them.

• Antarctic Sea Ice Extent is 1,550,000 sq km above the 1981-2010 mean. That is ranked 1 for the day.
• Arctic Sea Ice Extent is -1,386,000 sq km below the 1981-2010 mean. That is ranked 33 for the day.

A quick update for sea ice extent for day 181 of 2014

• Global Sea Ice Extent is 279,000 sq km above the 1981-2010 mean. That is ranked 11 for the day.
• Antarctic Sea Ice Extent is 1,575,000 sq km above the 1981-2010 mean. That is ranked 1 for the day.
• Arctic Sea Ice Extent is -1,296,000 sq km below the 1981-2010 mean. That is ranked 33 for the day.

If I was an alarmists I would suggest that at the current rate of increase, by 2100 Antarctica will be completely inaccessible by ship.

But I’m not. I do wonder if the the spike in 1979 is an artifact of the satellite at that time, or if it is where we are now (remember the area to the left of 1979 just wasn’t recorded so we don’t know what it really looks like) and once the AMO cools Antarctica Sea Ice Extent will shrink and the Arctic will grow.
