8th Antarctic Sea Ice Extent Daily Record For 2013 – 5th in a row

Day 73 (March 14) had Antarctic Sea Ice Extent set its 8th daily record – the 5th in a row.

2013 broke the old record from 2008 by 32,420 sq km.  2008 had broken the previous record (2001) by 240,070 sq km.

2008 was an amazing year for Antarctic Sea Ice. Did you know that on day 1 in 2008, the old record was broken by 1,391,120 sq km which had occurred in 1996?

Too bad the NSIDC “scientists” ignore Antarctica. It would have made a great story.

4th record day in a row for Antarctic Sea Ice Extent – 7th record for 2013

UPDATE: 8th record

2013 Day 71 was the 7th daily record for Antarctic Sea Ice Extent. And the 4th in a row.

If you look at the 2008 record setting run ice extent was so far ahead of previous years it was hard to believe any of those records would be broken.

Yet 2013 is doing it.

Antarctic Sea Ice Extent – 6th daily record for 2013

Day 71 in the Antarctic was another daily record for Sea Ice Extent (most ice on this day). That makes 6 for 2013 (corrected from 2003 typo).  And the 3rd day in a row.

There are only 7 days where a daily record exists from before 2000. 345 records are from 2006 to 2013.

NSIDC has a dedicated page to Arctic Sea Ice.  And one for Greenland. But no page dedicated to the Antarctic. That makes them propagandists, not scientists.

Antarctic Sea Ice Minimum Trend Climbing at 140,000 sq km per decade!

Antarctic Sea Ice Minimum Trend is climbing at 140,000 sq km per decade!

After declaring Antarctic had the 2nd highest minimum of all time I thought I should graph the trend.

Wow. At this rate Antarctic Sea Ice minimum will just keep growing and growing until you can’t get near Antarctica by ship at all! (probably not but it is fun to claim).

2nd Highest Antarctic Sea Ice Minimum Of All Time!

Update: See the trend here.

It is very likely 2013 will go down in the history books as having the 2nd highest Antarctic sea ice minimum of all time. In 2013 there was 1.4 million sq km more sea ice than there was in 1997 at minimum.

Top 6 Minimum Extents:

Year Day Minimum Extent
2008 51 3.69176

Antarctic Sea Ice Extent – 3rd Record For A Day

Antarctic Sea Ice Extent day 46 was the 3rd record for most ice on this day in 2013. Day 43 and 45 were also records.

There is a fair chance that day for 44 was the minimum for 2013, but we won’t know for a few days. 2008 (purple) dipped after appearing to hit minimum.

If day 44 was the minimum, it would be the 2nd earliest minimum ever (after 1993 day 43) and the highest minimum ever.

Antarctic Sea Ice Sets Record For Most Ice On This Day

UPDATE 2: And Another.

UPDATE: Another record.

Antarctic Sea Ice Extent set a record on day 43 (Feb 12 2013) for most ever on this day. at 3.80037 million sq km.

The old record was in 2008. The record for most ice ever at minimum was also in 2008. 3.69176 million sq km. There is a decent chance that record will be broken.
