Congrats India – Every Village Now Has Access to Electricty

Every village (not every house)  now has access to electricity in India.

Pretty amazing accomplishment.

“About 270 million Indians had no access to electricity in 2014 — making up one third of the world’s powerless.”

“After taking charge in May 2014, Modi announced his bold plan to provide electricity for all. The following year he added details, pledging to connect 18,452 villages identified as powerless within 1,000 days — in other words, by May 1, 2018. (India has more than 597,000 villages.) He followed up with a proposal to provide electricity access to every home by the end of March 2019. The first goal appears to be within reach. The second, though, may take longer.”

I’m sure the villagers appreciate fossil fuels.

Indian Village Demands Real Electricity, Not Solar Gimmick

“Former Chief minister met by village youngsters carrying placards demanding “real source of energy”, and “not the fake solar powered” one.

The least you would expect when you bring electricity to an entire village, ending over three decades of darkness, is a ‘thank you’ from its residents. But no such niceties here in Dharnai, a nondescript village tucked away in the Naxal heartland of Bihar.

The residents of Dharnai are far from satisfied to see lights for the first time in 33 years, courtesy a solar-powered micro-grid set up by the environment watchdog Greenpeace India. They now want asli bijli (real electricity) from the government.”

India: Greenpeace Are Economic Terrorists

” India’s domestic spy service has accused Greenpeace and other lobby groups of hurting economic progress by campaigning against power projects, mining and genetically modified food, the most serious charge yet against foreign-funded organisations.”

“Greenpeace denied it was trying to block economic expansion”

“Seventy million households – 35-40 percent of the country’s 1.2 billion people – still have no access to electricity. This summer authorities in north India are battling power breakdowns and public anger as the country swelters under the longest heatwave on record.

The Intelligence Bureau said the foreign NGOs and their Indian arms were serving as tools advance Western foreign policy interests.”

Greenpeace believed that India should embrace renewable energy and improve energy efficiency …

How can rich white people headquartered in Germany hate the poor brown in India so much they deny them the chance of having electricity?

How can you improve the energy efficiency of ZERO electricity for 40% of  the people. 500 million people without electricity.

And all the while Germany gets over 50% of its electricity from dirty brown lignite coal

There is a new government in India, and I suspect Greenpeace et al will be facing life and death choices for choosing to condemn so many Indians to poverty.
