Asteroid 2017 EA Comes Within 9,000 miles of Earth

Maybe NASA might have given more than 6 hours warning if it wasn’t squandering billions a year on the AGW cult.

“A 10-foot asteroid whizzed past Earth yesterday at a distance 20 times closer than the moon – and astronomers spotted it just six hours before its closest approach.

Known as 2017 EA, the tiny space rock soared just 9,000 miles (14,500 km) above the eastern Pacific Ocean, reaching its nearest point at 6:04 a.m. PST on Thursday morning.

Scientists at the NASA-funded Catalina Sky Survey in Arizona detected asteroid 2017 EA just six hours before its closest approach, according to the space agency’s Center for Near Earth Object Studies.

Sea Ice Extent (Global Antarctic and Arctic) – Day 53 – 2017

Arctic refusing to melt. Higher than 2016, 2006 and only 12,000 sq km lower than 2005.

Polar Bears Are Fine – Except For the Hunting

Polar Bears are fine. Except for the ones shot by hunters and turned into pelts for rich Chinese.

… there are about 15,000 polar bears across Canada’s Arctic. “That’s likely the highest [population level] there has ever been.”

There’s much at stake in the debate. Population figures are used to calculate quotas for hunting, a lucrative industry for many northern communities. Hunting polar bears is highly regulated but Inuit communities can sell their quota to sport hunters, who must hunt with Inuit guides. A polar-bear hunting trip can cost up to $50,000. Demand for polar-bear fur is also soaring in places like China and Russia and prices for some pelts have doubled in the past couple of years, reaching as high as $15,000.

The Nunavut hunting quota in the western Hudson Bay area fell to 8 from 56 after the 2004 report from Environment Canada. The Nunavut government increased it slightly last year but faced a storm of protest. Over all, about 450 polar bears are killed annually across Nunavut. Mr. Gissing said a new quota is expected to be announced in June.

CO2 is Making the Planet Greener

CO2 is making the planet greener.

We show a persistent and widespread increase of growing season integrated LAI (greening) over 25% to 50% of the global vegetated area, whereas less than 4% of the globe shows decreasing LAI (browning). Factorial simulations with multiple global ecosystem models suggest that CO2 fertilization effects explain 70% of the observed greening trend, followed by nitrogen deposition (9%), climate change (8%) and land cover change (LCC) (4%).
