Warming Causes CO2

Warming Oceans = More CO2

“Scientists noted that emissions tend to rise more quickly during an El Niño weather pattern. The El Niño phenomenon, which was unusually strong in 2015-16, warms the Pacific Ocean, bringing heavy rains and droughts to different parts of the world. Scientists say the increase in sea surface temperatures that occurs during an El Niño causes less carbon dioxide to be dissolved in the oceans and, as a result, more accumulates in the atmosphere. Stephen A. Montzka, a NOAA research chemist who worked on the index, said the spike between 2015 and 2016 — the largest incremental increase in greenhouse gases since 1988 — was largely caused by El Niño. The jump between 1987 and 1988, which came in at a slightly higher 2.8 percent, was also linked to an El Niño.”

Cause of Death: Climate-Change Alarmism

I didn’t want to post this, but this article gets it right.

It’s not climate change that kills. It’s the zealotry of those who believe they are on a Gaia-given mission to save the planet that is capable of causing economic mayhem, poverty and even death.

Meanwhile, those who should be looking after the community and our security instead waste their time and our money on pointless superficialities that are designed, like cladding, to hide their deficiencies and to make them look good.

At this stage, it seems those who lost their lives in the Grenfell fire were the victims of not one but two forms of climate-change alarmism: the fire appears to have been started by a fridge that exploded thanks to its “environmentally friendly” coolant, and the flames spread so rapidly thanks to the recently installed “green energy” cladding, designed to beautify this concrete eyesore.

If true, the coroner may as well scribble “cause of death: climate-change alarmism” on his report. “Energy efficiency” considerations prioritised over safety considerations.

Flashback: Sunshine in Spain

This is a flashback to and old post I did noting that Spain is warming up because of more sunshine.

Sunshine data rarely makes it into the debate over AGW. Canada once upon a time published sunshine data from hundreds of stations. Now it is down to zero.

In 2008 a paper was published called  “Short Communication – Sunshine and synoptic cloud observations at Ebro Observatory, 1910–2006” by J. J. Curto, E. Also, E. Palle and J. G. Sole.

I managed to download a copy. The following graph is of sunshine measured from an Observatory in Spain. If you weren’t paying attention you might think it is a graph of GISS or HADCRU temperatures … right?

Since 1910, we find that there has been
an overall increase in the number of sunshine hours, but
with large oscillations that make this increase statistically
insignificant, while over the same time period cloudiness
has increased by a larger amount (about 12%) with high
statistical significance.
We associate the increase in both sunshine hours and
cloud amount with a shift in cloud types during the
100-year period covered by the observations.”
