This indicates daytime cooling.
Only 13205 High Max records were set. That is over a 2:1 ratio. Brrr.

Antarctic Sea Ice Extent is 1,102,000 sq km above the 1981-2010 mean
That smashes the previous daily record by 240,000 sq km. And is also the 126th daily record for the year.
Global Sea Ice Update July 24 2014. As “normal” as you can get!
Arctic Sea Ice Extent rose 50,000 sq km. Not unprecedented. But not normal this time of year.
There is some claims that possibly/maybe a “sensor error” caused a small overestimation of sea ice extent in the Antarctic since 1991.
From what I understand the paper is atrocious. More importantly, this is what the sea ice extent for this day looks like:
