Antarctic Sea Ice Extent Update as of Dec 17 2013 (Day 351)

Antarctic Sea Ice Extent is 1.5 million sq km above the 1981-2010 mean. Thats almost 15% higher.

The mean for the day is 10.25 million sq km and the most recent day’s data is 11.78 million sq km.

After a few days of being in 3rd place Antarctic Sea Ice Extent is now back in 2nd place.

Global Sea Ice 5th Highest For the Day

Apologies. Global Sea Ice is actually 5th highest. Not 3rd as I wrote. Back from a trip. Brain rusty.I misread. Antarctic Sea Ice Extent is  3rd.  Global is not 3rd. It is 5th.

As of Dec 16 2013, Global Sea Ice is the 5th highest for the day, and above the 1981-2010 mean by 900,000 sq km.

2nd Daily Record in a Row Antarctic Sea Ice Extent – 107th For 2013

Day 342 and 343 (Dec 8th/9th) were daily records for Antarctic Sea Ice Extent. That makes them the 106th and 107th records for 2013.

2008 still leads with 122 daily records. 2013 does have 244 1st and 2nd place finishes for in front of 2008 with 160 1st and 2nds.

2013 will probably only set 2 or 3 more records before the records set in 2007 prevent any more.

USCRN TMax/Tmin/Tmean October 2013 – Russia is Warming at 225F / Century?

The USCRN is the US Climate Research Network. I had not looked at the data in a little while. So I was confused by the state code of SA.

Well, it turned out that the NOAA has added a station in Tiksi, Russia. Which has been warming (Tmax) at 225F/century over the last 3 Octobers.

The USCRN has no stations in Connecticut or Delaware or New Jersey, but it now has one in Russia.  Bizarre.

Anyway, the data is not that old, but here is the USCRN Tmax, Tmean and Tmin trends for October for most of the states in the USA and Tiksi.

SHAMEFUL: Obama to Give Wind Farms 30-Year Pass on Eagle Deaths

Slaughtering Eagles will soon be legal thanks to Obama.

This is Shameful.

“The Obama administration is about to approve a rule that will ensure the death of golden and bald eagles for the next 30 more years.
Hundreds of thousands of birds die each year flying into the deadly turbine blades atop the soaring towers that compose wind farms.

The rule will give wind farms thirty year permits for the “non purposeful take of eagles-that is where the take is associated with but
not the purpose of, the activity.’’ The take of eagles is also a euphemism for the slaughter of them.”

AMO Update as of October 2013

The AMO is definitely linked with climate cycles. Below are two graphs of each month of the AMO. One is from 2004. The other from 1856.

I think the AMO has peaked, but it is still wobbling around at the top of the peak and may continue to do so for several years.

Thw winter months definitely show an alternating saw-tooth pattern going down. If the pattern holds Nov/Dec/Jan/Feb should show a big drop.

But Oct stayed flat when it should have dropped. Who knows.
