Save The Coal – Polish PM Wants to “Rehabilitate Coal”

Europe is freaking out about Putin’s control of Europe’s energy supplies.  The Greens and the EU Central Planning Authority (same group I think) have done everything in their power to thwart attempts to explore for shale gas (fracking) in Europe.

So guess what? The Polish PM want to “rehabilitate” coal. Europe could have been burning nice clean shale gas by now. Now they want to burn even more coal. And probably trees. And books. Anything with high CO2 and anything without the word fracking in it.

“Russia, which provides around one third of the EU’s oil and gas, sent shockwaves through the international community with its military intervention and annexation of Ukraine’s Crimea peninsula two weeks ago.

The action prompted the United States and its European allies to begin imposing sanctions on President Vladimir Putin’s inner circle and to threaten to penalise key sectors of Russia’s economy.

Some 40 percent of Russia’s gas destined for Europe is shipped through Ukraine.

“The experience of the last few weeks shows that Europe must strive towards solidarity when it comes to energy,” Tusk said.

He said Poland’s proposed energy union would be based on six points including the “rehabilitation” of coal as a valid energy source, more shale gas exploration and common purchases to ensure the best price.”

IPCC admits: No evidence climate change has led to even a single species becoming extinct

Finally!!! Everytime I argue with members of the AGW Cult they claim we are in the midst of a “great extinction”. I ask them to name 10 species. When they can’t name any, I ask for 5. They usually come up with one animal that has been hunted to extinction (which is horrible, but not AGW)

Old Prediction:

“Global warming is said to be threatening thousands of animal and plant species with extinction. That, at least, is what the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has been predicting for years.”

New Confession:

“ IPCC admits that there is no evidence climate change has led to even a single species becoming extinct thus far.”

Polar Bears Are Doing Fine:

“At most, the draft report says, climate change may have played a role in the disappearance of a few amphibians, fresh water fish and mollusks. Yet even the icons of catastrophic global warming, the polar bears, are doing surprisingly well. Their population has remained stable despite the shrinking of the Arctic ice cap.”

Models Suck:

“”There is very little confidence that models currently predict extinction risk accurately,” the report notes. Very low extinction rates despite considerable climate variability during past hundreds of thousands of years have led to concern that “forecasts for very high extinction rates due entirely to climate change may be overestimated.””

Comparing Sea Ice Extent Day of Minimum/Maximum From 1979-2013

I have made 3 graphs for Antarctic/Global/Arctic Sea Ice Extent comparing the Day when the maximum ice occurred to the day the minimum ice occurred.

I am using anomalies from the 1979-2013 mean. 2014 is left out because it hasn’t finished yet.

Red is day of maximum and blue is day of minimum.

The items that stood out for me are:

Arctic 1999 and 2010 day of maximum which are 21 and 22 days above the mean. That is 10 more days later the other latest maximums.

Antarctic Day of Minimum has barely changed since 1999. Only a slight fluctuation up and down by 2 days or so.

“European leaders on Wednesday asked Barack Obama to share the US’s shale gas bonanza with Europe by facilitating gas exports to help counter the stranglehold Russia has on the continent’s energy needs.”

“Obama, while not ruling out the possibility, stressed the need for Europe to diversify its sources of energy in order to make it less vulnerable to Russian blackmail, and said Europe should open up to fracking to develop its own gas supply.”

Sea Ice Update March 26 2014 – Antarctic Sea Ice Is 930,000 sq km Above Normal

A quick update for sea ice extent:

  • Global Sea Ice is 330,000 sq km above the 1981-2010 mean.
  • Antarctic Sea Ice is  931,000 sq km above the 1981-2010 mean. For two days in a row Antarctic Sea Ice has been 2nd highest for the that day.
  • Arctic Sea Ice is only 600,000 sq km below the 1981-2010 mean.  And Arctic Sea Ice Extent probably reached its maximum for 2014 on March 20. That would be the 5th lowest in the satellite era.

AGW Cult: “We Messed Up the Currents” So No One Can Find MH370

I think Mother Jones is trying for the top of the list for stupid claims about “Global Warming”.

“Scientists say man-made climate change has fundamentally altered the currents of the vast, deep oceans where investigators are currently scouring for the missing Malaysian Airlines flight, setting a complex stage for the ongoing search for MH370. If the Boeing 777 did plunge into the ocean somewhere in the vicinity of where the Indian Ocean meets the Southern Ocean, the location where its debris finally ends up, if found at all, may be vastly different from where investigators could have anticipated 30 years ago. “

I’m laughing too hard to write any more.

 

 

Biofuels do more harm than good, UN warns

Haven’t the “deniers” been saying this for a long time? Biofuels are a cruel joke on the poor. Driving up food prices and creating more CO2.

“The United Nations will officially warn that growing crops to make “green” biofuel harms the environment and drives up food prices, The Telegraph can disclose.

A leaked draft of a UN report condemns the widespread use of biofuels made from crops as a replacement for petrol and diesel. It says that biofuels, rather than combating the effects of global warming, could make them worse.

The draft report represents a dramatic about-turn for the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).”

What Would 2C of Warming By 2036 Look Like?

Michael Mann: “our planet would cross the dangerous warming threshold of two degrees C in 2036, only 22 years from now. ” (h/t Jeff Id)

Using HADCRUT4 and WoodForTrees I graphed the data from 1850 t0 2014, and then added in 2C of warming by 2036.

What a joke.

Update: The biggest rise over 22 years was March 1976 to February 1998 = 1.193C. The 4th biggest was March 1856 to February 1878 = 0.913C.
