Good News: Governments rip up renewable contracts

Don’t you just love a good news story. The greedy companies raking in green subsides paid for by the poor and elderly are now the target for the tax man.

“Governments across Europe, regretting the over-generous deals doled out to the renewable energy sector, have begun reneging on them. To slow ruinous power bills hikes, governments are unilaterally rewriting contracts and clawing back unseemly profits.

In Italy, one of Europe’s largest economies and one that lavished billions in subsidies on the renewable sector, the government in 2013 applied its so-called “Robin Hood tax” to renewable energy producers. Under the new rule, renewable energy producers with more than €3 million in revenue and income greater than €300,000 must now pay a tax of 10.5%.”

AGW Cult: “Run Away!”

Another in a long line of AGW Cult Leaders runs away from debate.

“The president of the Irish National Trust has refused to debate a leading sceptic of man-made global warming. Professor John Sweeney of ‘An Tasice, the Irish National Trust’, had been due to debate Dr Benny Peiser of the Global Warming Policy Foundation on the RTE show ‘Prime Time’, but pulled out when he learnt who his opponent was.

An Taisce issued a statement saying: “We looked forward to contributing to the debate on how we should deal with the serious problems that ‘Climate Change’ will present to our children and grandchildren.

“However, we have since learnt that Prime Time will be flying a ‘Climate Denier‘ in from the UK for the night. “

The AGW Cult is terrified of debating “sceptics” because “sceptics” are better informed.

Royal Society for the Prevention of Birds.

James Delingpole has a good article on the corruption of  The National Trust and the Royal Society for the Protection Prevention of Birds.

“There’s a problem here and it’s so glaring it’s a wonder that the authors of the report were able to write this section without burying their heads in shame and wishing the earth would swallow them up as punishment for their intellectual dishonesty and positively Gorean levels of hypocrisy. The fact that they were capable of doing so speaks volumes as to just how out of touch with reality environmentalists like the ones who have taken over the RSPB hierarchy have become.

That problem – *exasperated sigh* – is this: if the RSPB is really concerned about the potential disturbance to wildlife of a few noisy lorries and drill rigs (which, let’s not forget, are only up for a short period, after which they are replaced by a silent extraction device called a Christmas tree), how come it’s so cheerfully complacent about the epic numbers of rare birds and protected bats which are sliced and diced (or, in the case of bats, barotraumatised – i.e. made to implode) by the industrial wind turbines which the RSPB not only champions but from which it benefits financially.

Yes that’s right. The RSPB – supposed guardians of Britain’s birdlife – makes hundreds of thousands of pounds in partnership with the wind industry, despite the fact that wind turbines around the world kill as many as 22 million birds every year, including rare and protected species such as America’s national bird the Bald Eagle, Whooping Cranes and Hen Harriers.

And how many birds does the fracking industry kill each year? Well, put it this way: the number is an awful lot closer to zero than it is to 22 million.”

NSF Beclowns Itself With Scare Story About Genghis Khan And Perfect Weather

According to PNAS and the NSF and the Daily Mail, Genghis Khan conquered Asia because an ideal combination of warmth and rainfall caused grass production to rise..

All this conjecture about perfect weather leading to huge crops resulting in Genghis Khan conquering of Asia comes from the tree rings of only 17 trees.

“Between 1211 and 1225 – the exact time of the Mongols’ rise – central Mongolia saw one of its wettest, and warmest, periods for 1,000 years

“We propose that these climate conditions promoted high grassland productivity and favored the formation of Mongol political and military power.”

“They think the conditions created those needed for a boost in lush growth of grass, which would have fuelled the soldiers’ horses and fattened their livestock. The good weather lasted from 1211 to 1225 – the exact period when Genghis Khan and his armies rose to prominence.”

“Such a strong and unified center would have required a concentration of resources that only higher productivity could have sustained, in a land in which extensive pastoral production does not normally provide surplus resources,” the paper states.”

The incredible leap in logic from 17 tree rings is breathtaking. Maybe some goat herd tethered  goats to the trees and the urinated on them. There are many explanations for why a few trees grew better for exactly 14 years.

But even more amazing is that the lesson “we” the gullible should learn is that extreme weather will bring drought!

“The researchers said the trees, some of them more than 1,000 years old, gave them an indication of what the future could hold for the region, with drought and other extreme weather likely to become more common in central Asia.”

The stupidity is alarming. First they claim than natural variation in climate brought warm moist conditions to Mongolia and in fact brought perfect growing conditions … and their conclusion is to worry about drought and extreme weather.

What a waste of grant money.

Remember How Climate Change Was Going To Kill Off Snow? North American Snow 3rd Highest. Ever.

In only two years — 1969 and 1978 — was there more snow on the ground in North America in early March than there is now.

As of Tuesday, North America is covered by the third-highest amount of snow this late in the season since records began in 1966, according to NOAA’s U.S. National Ice Center.

Only 1969 and 1978 had more snow cover at this point in the year, according to Sean Helfrich of NOAA’s National Ice Center.

Climate Change Caused Never Ending Drought in California … oops. Nevermind.

Climate Change Caused a never ending drought In California … except for the never ending part.

“The storm – the largest since 2010”

“This is no drought-buster, but it’s a nice, fat down payment” in the water bank, he said.”

“As of Saturday evening, the storm had dropped more than 4 inches of rain in downtown Los Angeles, 5 inches in Van Nuys and almost 12 inches at Cogswell Dam in the Angeles National Forest, according to the National Weather Service.”

Rainfall over the last month has helped facilitate the salmon’s return to their spawning grounds, said the local water district officials who track their numbers.”

“Ski resorts were delighted with fresh snow that promised to extend their season

WAIT … I thought the end of snow was here because of climate change?

But my  favorite quotation is: “The storm wasn’t all bad news, though.

Bad News!!!!!!!!!!!!  Rain in a drought is now BAD NEWS???????????

Why is rain bad news? Because it spoils the climate change con game. In a few weeks the AGW Cult will be complaining about too much rain and how climate change causes floods.

The NY Times Thinks It Is The “End Of Snow” For the Olympics

Some guy at the NY Times Thinks It Is The “End Of Snow” For the Olympics.

“In the last 47 years, a million square miles of spring snow cover has disappeared from the Northern Hemisphere

I suspect the “author” used 47 years because the Rutgers Snow Lab’s data for the Northern Hemisphere starts in 1967  (2014 – 47).

Now the Olympics usually runs in February, so lets look at snow cover data for February.

EndOfSnow

2013 in February certainly had a little less snow than 1967 (47 years ago).

But 2013 had a lot more than 1968. About 3.5 million sq km more in fact according the Rutgers snow lab.

And 2010-2013 were probably the snowiest 4 years ever. The late 1970s would be the snowiest 3 years (but that was the coldest winter in US history)

1989 to 2002 looked bad for snow. But that was a long time ago. Warmists do tend to live in the past.

Looking at that graph I would have to conclude that there is no end of snow. Snow is doing just fine in the Northern Hemisphere.

However, the lack of snow does somewhat coincide with the AMO in February being very low. But it has nothing to do with CO2.

Green Hypocrisy

“When they’ve got scientific evidence on their side, green campaigners spew hate speech about the evil science deniers on the other side. But the moment a scientific consensus attacks some cherished green myth (organic good, GMO bad, for example), they spew hate speech against scientists as corporate shills.”

Instapundit

Yup. Ever try and argue with a greenie that banning DDT killed millions? They get ugly really quick.

Andy Revkin Annoyed With “Climate Change Contrarians” Being “Energized”

Andy Revkin has posted an attack on the researchers who sailed into infamy in the Antarctic on the ill-fated MV Akademik Shokalskiy.

He is using terms like “bungled trip” , “unessential expedition” ,  “misadventure”,  “distraction from serious research”  and “tarnish the wider field of Antarctic science”.

But reading between the lines, it is clear to me what Revkin is really trying to say.

1) He has never gone to Antarctica and therefore managed to avoid reporting on record sea ice in Antarctica.

Revkin_Climate_Change_Contrarians_2

2) The attention brought to record sea ice in Antarctica has “energized climate change contrarians“.

Revkin_Climate_Change_Contrarians_1

I would translate the term “distraction from serious research” as meaning “brought attention to the wrong pole” … the one with record sea ice.

If the bunglers in charge of the expedition had found open water and managed to blame it on climate change, he would have jumped in with both feet trumpeting their success.
