10 MORE Random Canadian Tmax from 1980

A few days I published 10 more randomly chosen graphs of TMAX using Environment Canada’s monthly summaries.

I was fiddling with the graphing code to add the overall rate of temp change and color the title – red for warming and blue for cooling.

I took a closer look at 3 stations (2 are airports).

Tmax temperatures falling at -.414C /dec, -.224/dec and -.246/dec

April Tmax in Brandon have fallen 7C in 35 years.

Tx - SWIFT CURRENT CDA SK . 1980 to 2015 . -0.414 C per decade

Tx - FORT MCMURRAY A AB . 1980 to 2015 . -0.224 C per decade

Tx - BRANDON A MB . 1980 to 2015 . -0.246 C per decade

10 MORE Random Canadian Tmax from 1980

A few days I published 10 randomly chosen graphs of TMAX using Environment Canada’s monthly summaries.

I picked 1980 to 2015 partly to create a round number and partly because that is sort of when AGW became noticeable.

I picked TMAX because I think TMIN’s are rising because of UHI.

The red lines indicate a warming trend. The blue a cooling trend.

Anyone see evidence of CO2 making it warm?

Here are 10 more.

10 Random Canadian Tmax from 1980

Every once in a while I visit the data for the Canada. Earlier today I looked at the station nearest me (NANAIMO A).

But since I have the code … I thought why not look at 10 random stations that have data in 1980 and 2015.

Today I am looking at TMAX monthly data (using Environment Canada monthly summaries) for 10 random stations from 1980.

Each line of graphs is a season  – Dec/Jan/Feb …. etc.

Nanaimo Tmax from 1980

Every once in a while I visit the data for the weather station closest to my hometown on the west coast of Canada.

Today I am looking at TMAX monthly data (using Environment Canada monthly summaries) for NANAIMO A from 1980.

Each line of graphs is a season  – Dec/Jan/Feb …. etc.

5 months are warming. 4 are cooling. 3 are cooling ever so slightly.

If there is a CO2 signal in there I am missing it.

Increased carbon dioxide enhances plankton growth

CO2 is good.

“Coccolithophores–tiny calcifying plants that are part of the foundation of the marine food web–have been increasing in relative abundance in the North Atlantic over the last 45 years, as carbon input into ocean waters has increased. Their relative abundance has increased 10 times, or by an order of magnitude, during this sampling period, report researchers.”

We never expected to see the relative abundance of coccolithophores to increase 10 times in the North Atlantic over barely half a century. If anything, we expected that these sensitive calcifying algae would have decreased in the face of increasing ocean acidification (associated with increasing carbon dioxide entering the ocean from the burning of fossil-fuels). Instead, we see how these carbon-limited organisms appear to be using the extra carbon from CO2 to increase their relative abundance by an order of magnitude.

Europe To Burn Dirty Filthy Lignite Instead of Clean Fracked Natural Gas (or Nuclear)

Green fanatics have worked really, really hard to prevent fracking in Europe. And to shut down nuclear power plants.

So what happens? A huge number of lignite power plants are being built. Lignite is filthy coal. High CO2 coal.  Lignite produces 80% more CO2 per kWh than natural gas.

Stupid Green Policies have consequences.

Lignite – also known as brown coal – power stations currently make up more than 10% of the EU’s total CO2 emissions. Greenpeace said that if Europe is to continue to play its part in keeping the world within the internationally accepted limit of 2C of warming, 90% of the carbon contained in its lignite reserves must remain buried.

Despite this, lignite-fuelled power stations are still being built, locking in consumption of the fuel for decades. There are 19 such facilities in various stages of approval, planning or construction in Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Greece, Germany, Poland, Romania and Slovenia. Greenpeace figures show these new projects alone would emit almost 120m tonnes of CO2 every year – equivalent to three-quarters of the annual carbon output of the UK’s energy sector. The average lifespan for a coal power station is about 40 years, meaning the plants could release nearly 5bn tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.”

Germany Mocks Obama By Burning More Brown Coal

Germany has decided to mock Obama’s plan to kill off coal power in the USA:

The eastern German state of Brandenburg approved plans on Tuesday to allow utility Vattenfall to mine a further 200 million tonnes of brown coal from 2026, a move critics say will cause pollution and also force 800 people from their homes.

Brown coal – also known as lignite – has a high moisture content and can be susceptible to spontaneous combustion, making it difficult to store and transport. Therefore, it is often burnt in power stations near to mines. It also emits more carbon dioxide when burnt compared with other types of coal, making it more harmful to the environment.

Opponents of the fuel, which accounts for about a quarter of German power, have campaigned hard for its use to be halted because of the high levels of carbon dioxide emissions and because they say about 800 local residents will be forced to relocate to make way for the new open-cast mining.

But its advocates say brown coal allows the use of domestic raw materials for a reliable source of electricity, especially in industrial parts of Germany, and reduces the need for energy imports.”

Germany is now squandering trillions on “green” energy subsidies … and paying for them by burning even more filthy brown coal. They could have been fracking for clean natural gas. But no … they shut down their nuclear power stations too.

London’s Dirty Secret: Pollution Worse Than Beijing’s

The AGW Cult is making air pollution worse.

“European Union efforts to fight climate change favored diesel fuel over gasoline because it emits less carbon dioxide, or CO2. However, diesel’s contaminants have swamped benefits from measures that include a toll drivers pay to enter central London, a thriving bike-hire program and growing public-transport network.

“Successive governments knew more than 10 years ago that diesel was producing all these harmful pollutants, but they myopically plowed on with their CO2 agenda,” said Simon Birkett, founder of Clean Air in London, a nonprofit group. “It’s been a catastrophe for air pollution, and that’s not too strong a word. It’s a public-health catastrophe.””

“Nitrogen dioxide is a problem that you get in all big cities with a lot of traffic,” said Alberto Gonzalez Ortiz, project manager for air quality at the European Environment Agency, which is based in Copenhagen. “In many cases it’s gotten worse because of the new fleets of diesel cars.”
